WordPerfect sometime has problems managing temporary storage that it uses for scratch space. If its "temp" files get corrupted then WordPerfect can crash unexpectedly. This problem can be resolved by deleting temp files in your user profile. To do this follow the steps below:
- Restart your computer.
- Sign in to the computer, click the Windows Start icon at the bottom-left of the screen, type "%temp%" (without the quote marks), and then press Enter. A File Explorer window will appear showing all of your temp files.
- Click on any of the files once, and then hold down the CTRL key and tape the A key. This will highlight all the files listed.
- Now press the DEL key. This should delete all the temp files. If you see a warning that a file cannot be deleted, then select the option to skip that file.
If you have followed the steps above and WordPerfect is still crashing, then you might have a document with internal corruption. This problem can often be resolved by rebuilding the document. To do this follow the steps below:
- Open the document in WordPerfect
- Click "File" on the menu bar and then choose "Save As...".
- A "Save As" dialog box will open. Choose "Rich Text Format (RTF)" from the "File type:" dropdown list and click the [Save] button.
- Now click "File" on the menu bar and choose "Open".
- Select and open the RTF file you just saved.
- Now click "File" and then "Save as..." again. Select WordPerfect as the "File type", and save the file with a new name to prevent overwriting the original document.
- Scroll through the document and correct and formating that was lost during the rebuild.
